What we collect
Better Family Trips runs primarily in your browser. Trip cities, selected places, travel dates, and home airport are stored in localStorage on your device so your plan survives page reloads.
When the server database is enabled, your trip and itinerary may also be saved on our server so you can reopen or share them via a link (/?trip=…). Saved trips include city names, selected place IDs, travel dates, and computed daily schedules — not your name or email unless you create an account.
If you create an account, we store your email address and a hashed password so you can sign in and list your saved trips. Share links remain public — anyone with the link can view the plan; editing someone else's saved trip creates your own copy.
We collect anonymous usage events (e.g. city searched, place selected, itinerary downloaded) via our own /api/events endpoint. Events include a random session ID and may be linked to a saved trip ID. Copilot messages are logged by length only, not content.
If you use the Trip copilot or live flight prices, your messages and search parameters may be forwarded to third-party providers (e.g. OpenAI, FlightAPI.io) to fulfill your request. We do not operate user accounts today.

Each provider has its own privacy policy. Your browser may send your IP address to these services directly or via our API proxy.
Cookies
We use sessionStorage for an anonymous analytics session ID. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
